Tailgating. It's not just for football.

When most people think of tailgating, they think of football. We tailgate at the race track as well. People will get to the track sometimes a couple of days in advance and just cook out, have friends over, and have a good time. Maybe even a game of poker, baggo (cornhole as it is also known), or whatever else you can think of. Tailgates are also a great way to meet new people. I myself took part in one thanks to some good friends I know at the track. The food was good but the time spent with fellow fans and friends was even better. Drivers and fans alike will tailgate at the track. You never know who might show up depending on who and your friends know. Some of your best memories at the track aren't even of the races sometimes. Sometimes they are of good times with good friends.

  1. One of the best racing tailgate places I've ever seen was Greenville-Pickens Speedway in South Carolina.

They come early there and park around the backstretch and in turn one/two. Every car/truck is it's own party with grills and foods...

as for dirt tracks Crossville (TN) Raceway in its prime was a great tailgating track. Three tier on backstretch was best place to watch the races in the tracks prime.

Wish more tracks did things to encourage tailgating... it has its spots in racing (Columbus, MS) comes to mind...but fewer race tracks embrace the tailgating concept in favor of hoping to sell food from their concession stands.

  2. Awesome. I agree. One of the absolute best places I know of ANYWHERE, and it is weekly for that matter, is at the Fairbury American Legion Speedway in Fairbury, Illinois. They have a good time there EVERY Saturday night. It is an atmosphere unmatched on a weekly basis around here. The big shows it's even bigger. It's really neat. Met a lot of nice folks that way. You bring up valid points why they don't too.
